This is my second covering of Killzone Airsoft, the site has moved since my last review though. It’s moved into the neighbouring wood, a far bigger area with a lot of growth and some diversity with thick bushes, some open areas and some mature tree growth. It no longer describes itself as an outdoor CQB. It’s still not a huge site but in it’s current iteration it’s been running for a year and the growth of both the admin/marshall team as well as the game areas has brought this on from a small very community driven site to a thriving location that you wouldn’t hesitate sending your co-workers to who want to get involved.

Arrival & Safe Zone

Arriving at Killzone, you drop down off the main road and through a large metal gate, there is plenty of parking both to the left and right of you on reasonably hard packed dirt. There is a large green net in front of you (don’t go through that).
Safezone, is a short walk around the game zone to your right, sometimes there is a quad running to carry your gear or even you if you feel brave. There are toilets at the final left hand corner into the safe zone. These are well covered and clean.

Sign in happens at the cabin, this is also your base for buying food and airsoft related gubbins. Killzone still offer both a morning breakfast as well as a hot lunch so you can head straight to site if you want and the shop is well stocked for being on site so you can usually replace anythign you’ve forgotten so your day isn’t ruined. Signin as as per normal procedure, you get ticked off and you can pay by cash or card.

Safety Brief & Chrono

Safety brief is usually split, rentals have their own slightly more in depth brief and players get something marginally different, you are respected as a player here, not as a noob. There are a couple of caveats for Killzone, no bangs and bio BB’s.
All guns are chrono’d on shooting weight. There is no mark to show chrono has been carried out and there is the chance of being pulled for random chrono in the day as well.
Speaking in a 0.2 equivalent format the limits are, AEG’s/Shotgun/Pistol/Full Auto’s are 350, DMR are 450 and BASR are 500. DMR and BASR carry a MED of 20M.

Site & Playing Areas

The new site is significantly bigger than the old Outdoor CQB. It has several distinct and constantly building areas. There is a large village, church, killhouse, Raccoon City, Jail/Prison, Ammo Dump, Sniper compound and a few others that the names of elude me. Overall though, it’s a huge improvement over the old in both size and play areas.

Games

The games in the morning were a combination of a warmup zombies with a twist, it was almost more like a TDM at times with both teams having some regen abilities but then a long push back through several of the objectives taking up the remainder. the new site lends itself better to these games and you can roam in places to get out wider and go for the flanks.

Lunch

Lunch is always good at KZ. Hot food, chips, burgers, potentially a special for that day, the food is a pride of place and it’s done well. Cannot complain at all. Lunch is never too long either, these is a huge emphasis on getting back out at Killzone so you won’t spend 2 hours waiting.

Games contd…

The afternoon was a pushback with the other team doing the opposite to the morning and played across different objectives, these constantly rolling pushback games keep a steady momentum across the games and ensure you are constantly in action. Occasionally you get a gap where you push quickly or have fallen back too far but generally the emphasis on being out and shooting is maintained.

Marshalling & General Attitude of Players

The site runs very light on marshalls, you have your main marhsall and owner Joe along with an extra in hi vis but a lot of the in game marshalling is done via 3 or 4 player marshalls on each team. This ensures that games are steered in the right direction and that overall the objective is followed.
Player attitude is of a high standard, Killzone has a very open and welcoming community and there are some strong friendships in the group which are often tested in game, this gives a great ambience as there is rarely any cross of words.

Overall

Killzone is now an established “thing”. It caters for both experienced players and is a great starting place for new or younger players as it focuses on keeping you no more than 30 paces from the battle at all times. Between game turn arounds are fast and fluid with some good facilities to back it up.
