Killzone Airsoft is Derby’s newest airsoft site, coming just a year after Hells Airsoft, it needed to offer something different from a normal CQB experience. It did. Killzone Airsoft is sold as a CQB Woodland site, although new, builds are underway, the land naturally makes for some good gameplay and as long as you don’t expect a vast sprawling woodland and you go wanting the indoors – outdoor. It’s well worth the trip.

Arrival & Safe Zone
Arriving at Killzone, you drop down off the main road and through a large metal gate, there is plenty of parking both to the right (which is an overflow) and if you drive to the left there is parking on both the left and rand hand sides of the road you are on.
Safezone, is a short walk down the hill to the edge of the woodland, where you are met with the sign in trailer and then there are several covered tables and benches to put your kit on. There are portaloos up at the car park which have piped drainage so definitely a cut above a lot of sites in this respect. There is also a cabin/loo in the middle of the woods! Eyepro on for that one.
Sign in happens at the main trailer, this is also your base for buying food and minor consumables. Killzone are different in that they serve hot breakfast cobs in the morning and then something different later on so there is a chance you may forfeight the ritual McDonalds coming here. As always, offer your name up, pay any difference outstanding (card or cash) and you’re in.
Safety Brief & Chrono
Safety brief is done at a good pace. Joe the owner’s voice does command an amount of attention when he speaks and I didn’t witness any of the usual heckling or back chatting like you can get at some locations. It informs you of all the info you need. There are a couple of caveats for Killzone, no bangs and bio BB’s. Not life ending for me as I tend not to use bangs and I am slowly coming round to Bio BB’s now. All guns are chrono’d on shooting weight! Chrono has a large blue oil bin with thr chrono set into it and a table is painted onto the bin showing you what the FPS limit is for each BB weight. I’ll say it…,. Fuck me somebody with some sense!
Speaking in a 0.2 equivalent format the limits are, AEG’s/Shotgun/Pistol/Full Auto’s are 350, DMR are 450 and BASR are 500.
Site & Playing Areas
The site is a small woodland in a fairly rectangular shape, in the middle is one of the main areas, Campsite, just behind it there is a large cluster of trees and bushes which are great to fight in and around and the in woodland loo is situated in the middle. The rectangle is in a very gentle valley as well so along what I refer to as “the back” it opens out and there is some really good sniping ground sight lines. There are some natural trenches running through at the top end and there is the most amazing bush/tree that is naturally hollowed out and I was blown away by every time I went in. Fantastic natural compound space. There are some objective barrels spaced around and a dried up stream at the other end. It is bushy enough to not see from one side to the other without being a jungle. As it’s quite new, there aren’t a lot of man made structures yet but there is a lot of potential for this to get incredibly good.

Games
The games in the morning were well put together and were kept flowing, a couple of warm up games and then into some objective pushing back, defending and retreiving bombs and takign hardpoints. You’re literally on the edge of the woods for safe zone so there wasn’t a need to take a full days supply out with you and the games flowed well with little messing about between during bomb up breaks.
Lunch
Lunch was brilliant. When I went there was chilli on which was pretty fantastic and cheaply priced, the trailer also has sweets, chocolate and hot/cold drinks so you’ll be fine even if you go unequipped. Lunch time was long enough not to get indegestion but short enough so I wasn’t bouncing on my toes begging to go back out. I would say it was the perfect balance really.
Games contd…
The afternoon was played slightly differently, as I had gone on the 30/10 it was the Halloween special so they’d put something extra on, this was a Juggernaut! Yep, we spent the afternoon trying to play objective based games getting absolutely rinsed by a Jug with a HPA minigun! Huge laughs and it made for some very dynamic gameplay. I hear the Jug is there to stay and they are also actively working on some good props for game objectives as well so no disused laptops in sight!
Marshalling & General Attitude of Players
The site being relatively small and quite CQB oriented plays well, it also means that it doesn’t need marshalls every 4th tree so 1 per side was the standard for the day and even then they were only there if needed to clarify, otherwise, the day virtually ran itself. As the site is quite small, you won’t confuse a BB hit with a raindrop, everyone called their hits and the general mood of all players was high, there were some experienced players and some newer players on site and all had a good time and from what I could see were utilised effectively and came away fulfilled. Bonus.

Overall
Killzone are new, they have a fantastic piece of land which if leveraged even a small amount will transform completely again and offer a really fantastic game day without having to walk for miles and miles. I love the CQB woodland concept, there’s no question I’m already going to be going back and it’s also quite close so already a contender for my “new home” venue. Indoors – Outdoors and I can use either a capa or a sniper with a good management team who are player and game focussed? You’ll struggle to not go back.
